Mercedes-Benz 190 SL

Description

1960 Mercedes Benz 190SL currently being commissioned in our workshop & will soon be ready for sale. With original Solex PHH 44 carburettors and a new MOT. Well documented provenance with original buff coloured Registration Book showing the supplying dealer as Langley Motor of Thames Ditton and then registered to Academy Award nominee and three time BAFTA winner Denholm Elliot CBE on 6th October 1960. Denholm Elliot appeared in many classic films including The Cruel Sea, Alfie, A Bridge Too Far, Zulu Dawn, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Trading Places. He toured Europe in the vehicle in 1962, taking his new wife Susan on an trip through France and Spain to their ultimate destination, Ibiza, where they settled and built a house. After several further local owners this 190SL ended in Aberdeen on 3rd September 1973 from whom the current owner purchased the vehicle on 15th July 1986. Extensive restoration work was commenced by its current owner as the vehicle was purchased partly dismantled and had been garaged for 10 years. With new rear wings and front panel the colour was changed to red, the engine rebuilt and new tan interior fitted. The original floor pans & chassis are rust free and in superb condition, helped by the fact that the car has been off the road for some thirty years. Comes complete with a new black soft top and black hard top. A very solid 190, this would make an ideal candidate for fresh paint and some minor upgrades to make it a very fine Benz indeed.
