Mercedes 300SL Gullwing W198

Description

This beautiful W198 300SL Gullwing is one of many that we look after. First registered in 1955 this particular car is an early example finished in iconic DB180G metallic silver. The car was transported from Italy for the required maintenance at Hilton & Moss after spending its life in one family ownership.

After many years of smooth motoring and regularity road rallies, this Gullwing developed a serious gearbox oil leak which required the attention of our specialist in-house classic Mercedes technicians. After close inspection the gearbox required the lapping of both front and rear covers, input shaft shimming and a full reseal with a new gasket set.

After a full service and replacement of both gearbox and engine mounts this 300SL was back motoring. The W198 model requires the most specialist care and tooling and our knowledge of this unique model ensures the very finest service and care.
