The Hilton Group gained Mercedes-Benz manufacturer approval for paint and body repairs in the early 1990’s. With Hilton & Moss founded in 2010 dedicated to the upkeep of classic Mercedes models our expertise spans from the early 300SL Gullwings and 190SL’s to the more modern ‘future classics’.
With the R129 range of SL now becoming more popular prices continue to gradually rise. Owners are now looking to complete more major restoration and preservation work to look after these classic SLs with the care they deserve.
This beautiful 500SL came to Hilton & Moss after many years in poor storage conditions. With huge sentimental value, it was vital that the car was cared for and brought back to a safe useable and presentable condition.
The 500SL first went through our detailed inspection process to identify all cosmetic and mechanical defects. Our expert technicians are well-versed in identifying common issues and concerns with all classic Mercedes-Benz models. A clear plan was formed to bring the car up to a safe and reliable mechanical level which included a fuel injection system overhaul, all new tyres, suspension refresh, new brake pipes, replacement thermostat and cooling system overhaul, a new alternator and a full major service.
Upon completion and successful road-testing the car was moved to our onsite panel and paint facility. Our long-standing relationship with Mercedes-Benz allowed for the swift purchase of a genuine pair of replacement front wings. It was decided that post repairs, the car would be resprayed entirely in its original colour Almandine Red (512) with matt two-tone using genuine Mercedes-Benz-approved paint solutions.
With our expertise in the brand, we are able to achieve the customers' perfect result, a beautiful-looking and driving classic SL that is both reliable and authentic.
