Description
Offered to the market for the very first time in its 52 year life is this charming 1966 230SL pagoda. Presented in its lovely and original, two-tone period colourway of Havana brown(408) over light beige(181), with a bronze(2400) / brown(6454) interior and brown hood, the colour palette is so sixties sepia sweet! Owned by the same family from brand new, this 230sl was first purchased by a Mr. Ivor Frost of surrey, in 1966 as a gift for his wife. After very little use and deciding that a larger car would suit his needs better, this Mercedes was swapped with a 2 year old Jaguar XJ6 belonging to his brother. For the next 31 years the car received very light use and had always been garaged. As the car was hardly being used, it was gifted to their sons to look after and enjoy in the early 2000s. In need of a little work by now the car was treated to some mechanical works to the engine, replacement wings and a paintwork refresh. Enjoyed and loved but little used over the last 15 years, the car was once again in need of a little re-commissioning, which works were undertaken by ourselves. The underside of the car had previously seen some metalwork repair to keep the car solid and MOT compliant. This however was in need of properly readdressing to really give the car the underside it deserved and to future proof it, and thus some £20k was eventually invested in renewal of floor pans, rear chassis leg sections, boot floor and various other panels, renewed in our workshops here at Hilton and Moss, all fully photographed and documented as to show the extent of the works done and the usual impeccable of standard of which our craftsmen here at Hilton and moss achieve. This car really is back to its best now structurally and underside. The interior was freshened up with a full woodwork restoration and partial upholstery refresh, yet a little patina retained to the rest of the car to uphold its originality and character. A charming little car which has been dearly loved by all of the family, the car drives so so well, with one of the best drivetrains we have come across, and the test drive just undertaken was a genuine pleasure which we wanted to last forever. It really does drive that well! The car is now looking for a new custodian to love and enjoy it, and caring ownership for this particular car will be years of pleasure for someone looking to use the car quite significantly, and get behind the wheel as regularly as possible. This charming early pagoda is very usable and fully protected underneath making all year round enjoyment a very distinct possibility. Further improvements cosmetically can be considered but are not essential for the person looking to enjoy the car regularly all year round, and would perhaps even detract from the originality and age that make this one so appealing and character filled. Displaying a mere 37,000 miles, this one has a lovely story and history, a charming period colourway and falls into that wonderful category of presenting very smartly yet being eminently usable, and drives as good as any we have ever come across. A great value pagoda which is very sorted throughoutSpecification
