Hilton & Moss Announce Their Entry Into Historic Racing With Their 1963 Jaguar E-Type S1 3.8 OTS
Hilton & Moss, renowned specialists in the restoration and preservation of iconic Jaguars, have unveiled an exceptional restoration and race build to mark their entry into historic racing with their all-new Pre 63 E-Type Race Car. Built to the ultimate Pre 63 specification and finished in rare but period-correct Roman Purple, the car is certain to turn heads at the motor racing circuits around the UK.
A Colour Like No Other: Roman Purple
Roman Purple is an extraordinary colour that embodies the bold spirit of the E-Type’s original design. A deep, rich hue that combines the allure of purple with a touch of elegance, it’s a colour that stands out without being ostentatious. Only one original E-Type was delivered from the factory in this unique shade, which now resides in the Jaguar Classics collection. The decision to finish Hilton & Moss's race car in Roman Purple was a deliberate tribute to this piece of history, adding an extra layer of exclusivity to an already iconic model.
William Garrett, Hilton & Moss General Manager, explained why these colours were selected.
“These particular colours were chosen by the team as they gave a modern twist to what is a very original and period-correct car. The uniqueness of the Roman Purple sums up Hilton & Moss well, it allows us to stand out without compromising on quality and originality.”
Over 3000 Hours to Restore
The process of restoring this E-Type Race Car has been nothing short of meticulous. The Hilton & Moss team, known for their expertise in E-Type restoration, applied their knowledge and passion to every step of the project. The car underwent a full restoration, with every detail carefully considered and painstakingly worked on. From the engine to the chassis, from the bodywork to the interior, nothing was left to chance.
The restoration work included a complete rebuild of the engine and drive train, which both enhanced the performance without compromising the reliability of the car, all whilst complying with strict regulations. The bodywork was stripped back to its bare metal and reworked to ensure the sleek lines and curves of the E-Type were perfectly preserved. Inside, the focus was on maintaining the racing elements authentic to the era while ensuring the car could handle the demands of competitive track racing. The car was carefully assembled with sympathetic yet purposeful upgrades throughout; the brief was a competitive car that was finished with the same finesse as the award-winning restorations we are known for.
Ready for the Track
Having been restored with precision and passion, the E-Type Race Car is now primed and ready to take to the track in its debut season. Hilton & Moss has confirmed that the car will make its first appearance at some of the most prestigious events in the motorsport calendar, including the Donnington Historic Festival, the Silverstone Festival, and an appearance or two at the legendary Goodwood Motor Circuit. These iconic venues provide the perfect stage for the car to showcase both its historical significance and its potential on the racetrack.
The E-Type has always been synonymous with performance, and Hilton & Moss has taken care to ensure that this race car not only captures the beauty of the original but is also built to deliver an exhilarating driving experience. As the car makes its way to these renowned events, it will undoubtedly attract attention from racing fans, car enthusiasts, and collectors alike.
