1966 Mercedes-Benz Pagoda 230SL

Description

This Mercedes-Benz 230SL Pagoda is a genuine UK right-hand drive example that first came to us for a full inspection. After identifying various areas of structural rust and previous poor repairs it was decided that the bodyshell was to go through one of our award-winning multi-stage body restorations. Consisting of six detailed stages we combine traditional and modern techniques resulting in a finish entirely visually correct but with greater modern rust and corrosion protection. During these stages, the chrome work is carefully stripped and fitted to the body lines perfectly ahead of its full recoating.

The specification of this car was totally bespoke to the client, finished in the elegant colourway of DB158 white/grey with a red hide interior. A visually classic, upgraded DAB radio unit was fitted and ‘all chrome’ hub caps as requested.

Whilst removed from the body shell, the suspension and subframes were disassembled, treated and coated. Where required fixings were renewed and passivated for long-term durability as per the original period correct finish. The braking system was entirely overhauled with all new lines, rebuilt calipers and cylinders.

The engine received a full visual detail and rubber/gasket reseal throughout. At this time the complex injection system was dismantled and refurbished.

The final result is a beautiful classic ‘SL’ that is both reliable and enjoyable to drive.
