Mercedes-Benz 450SL R107 Interior Re-Trim
Description
This beautiful Mercedes-Benz R107 450SL was a workshop favorite from the day it arrived - finished in rare 917G Aqua Blue, it suited the streets of Monte Carlo perfectly which is where it had resided before importation to the UK. The hot weather and climate had preserved the bodyshell very well and thus this R107 does not suffer the rot issues that are so commonly seen on UK examples. The hot and intense sun had however, taken its toll on this cars original Navy MB-Tex interior which had dried out, split and cracked in many locations including the dashboard which we see very regularly.
The decision taken by the owner was a full retrim and upgrade whilst retaining authenticity to the model. The customer decided to upgrade from the MB-Tex to a leather and ‘Karo Sports Check’, with the trim team at Hilton & Moss carefully sourcing the correct German grade leather with the correct grain and shading. The dashboard was carefully removed, repaired and colored. Various other plastic finished components were patterned and leather trimmed to lift the interior. Once disassembled the seats were entirely resprung and foamed to remove the sunken look and feel. The frames painted and the mechanisms lubricated for smooth regular use. The radio was upgraded to Bluetooth unit with hands-free compatibility and discreet leather trimmed speakers front and rear. The carpet was replaced with a correct boucle set and the seatbelts re-webbed in a rich dark navy. The door cards were stripped, new boards and fixings supplied and then the Karo Check trimmed to follow suit with the seats.
The expert team at Hilton & Moss reassembled the vehicle with ultimate attention to detail. As the R107 Series Mercedes age, so do many of the hidden plastic components that go brittle with time. Our in-house machine and manufacturing facility allows us to scan and 3D print obsolete components and reassemble these cars with great accuracy, even in the areas the eye cannot see.
Upon completion of the interior retrim the car was treated to rebuilt brake calipers, a full major service and fuel injector testing and cleaning to ensure the silky smooth Bosch injection system continues working on top form.
