Jaguar MKII 3.8 LITRE

Description

Still widely regarded as the most desirable of all Jaguar saloons, the 3.8 MKII is not only a handsome and elegant vehicle but also wonderful to drive with its responsive and powerful 3.8 litre engine. This particular example is a well-known and magazine featured car and has completed a genuine and well documented 19,819 miles from new, having been sold to a Mr. James Young of Strathaven, Scotland, who ordered this MKII from Rossleigh Motors with Ace Turbo wheel trims along with two huge air horns situated in the front wings! Mr. Young owned Townhead Garage and on delivery he took the rather unusual step of having the car professionally stripped and repainted in his garage livery of coffee and cream. This work was carried out by Millar and Williamson of Kirkintilloch and photographic documentation depicting this colour scheme in period is included with the car. Mr. Young only used the car sparingly at weekends and for holidays, however in 1964 Mr. Young fell ill and the MKII sat unused until his death in 1987. Jimmy Louden purchased Townhead Garage and agreed with Mr. Young’s widow that he would dispose of her husband’s car collection that had been accumulated over the years. Jimmy Louden had the car re-commissioned and it was sold in 1988 with just 8500 miles on the clock. Having passed between a number of owners since and restored to its original colour the only external deviation from the factory specification are the fitment of wire wheels. The interior of this MKII is of the best we have seen as it is presented in an unrestored condition and not only bears a most fabulous patina but also presents a rare opportunity to see just how Jaguar prepared their veneer when new. The only upgrade is the fitment of a recreation Derrington steering wheel, a popular upgrade in period. Possessing a wonderful history file as you would expect of such a car including all original handbooks, toolkit, Heritage Certificate and even the paper tag and string that hung around the cigarette lighter informing the owners how to use it! Sold to its last owner in 2006 by a leading Jaguar specialist where it benefitted from a full engine bay detail, fitment of power steering and various other enhancements believed to be in excess of £60,000 it is now ready for a new owner to show and drive this unique MKII.
